Governor Rendell talks transportation

Governor Rendell participated in a conference call this afternoon with representatives of Reconnecting America and the Transportation for America Campaign. He offered a number of suggestions for finding the roughly $140 billion a year he believes needs to go to supporting infrastructure projects nationwide, including creating a federal capital budget and opening up more interstate highways for tolling. Senate Public Health and Welfare – 11:00 a.m.

The Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee held a public hearing on SB 1255. The bill is the Conscientious Objection Act which would prohibit all forms of discrimination, disqualification, coercion, disability or liability upon such health care providers and institutions that decline to perform any health care service that violates their conscience. The committee heard testimony from Stacey Mitchell, Deputy Secretary of Quality Assurance for the PA Department of Health; Mary Brown, Senior Professional Staff Nurse at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian Hospital; and Andy Hoover, Legislative Director for the ACLU of PA.

Secretary of Aging Nora Dowd Eisenhower to resign effective Nov. 1
