At a press conference today at Harrisburg University, Governor Rendell called on the legislature to send him a budget bill that adequately funds higher education.  ”I refused to sign SB 850 because we can and must do better,” he said, and  indicated that the bill “slashes PHEAA grants by $21 million.” The governor stated that 175,000 students depend on PHEAA grants to attend college, and the budget impasse is holding up the funds. “It’s important do it quickly,” he said, “but it more important to do it right.”
