DEP Release Report on Marcellus Shale Well Blowout in Clearfield County

DEP Secretary John Hanger today released a report on the investigation into the well blowout in Clearfield County last month. The secretary reported the blowout was preventable and the fault of well operator, EOG. He stated the operator had only one barrier in place when the industry standard is at least two.  The secretary detailed the findings, recommendations and penalties.

Pennsylvania Environmental Council calls for strong oversight of

This morning the Pennsylvania Environmental Council released a new report entitled “Developing the Marcellus Shale,” which calls for stricter oversight and new regulations on the development of the natural gas field. The report, which was developed following a May policy conference on the Marcellus Shale sponsored by Duquesne University, includes a series of recommendations the Council believes are necessary. ONORATO CRITICIZES CORBETT FOR COMMENT ABOUT THE UNEMPLOYED

Democratic gubernatorial nominee Dan Onorato criticized his opponent Attorney General Tom Corbett at a press conference yesterday. “Tom Corbett stood in Lancaster last week where 21,700 people are currently unemployed and he said ‘the jobs are there but if we keep extending unemployment people are going to sit there’ as though they don’t want to go back to work,” Onorato stated.”My opponent thinks that the only thing wrong with the economy is that Pennsylvanians are lazy and they don’t want to work, he’s simply wrong. 591,000 unemployed Pennsylvanians would like to know: where are all these jobs? MELLOW STAFFERS SUBPOENAED BY FEDS

According to an article in the Scranton Times, federal prosecutors have subpoenaed more than a dozen staffers working for retiring state Sen. Robert Mellow as part of an ongoing probe into public corruption in Northeast Pennsylvania, sources said Monday. About 15 staffers at the Democratic leader’s offices in Peckville and Harrisburg received the hand-delivered subpoenas beginning last week from the FBI, ordering them to appear before a grand jury sitting in Harrisburg on
