CORBETT FREEZES PAY FOR CABINET, MANAGEMENT
According to an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer, members of Gov. Corbett’s cabinet and management employees in the executive branch will not see any increase in their salaries this year. Citing the still-sluggish economy, Corbett has imposed a pay freeze on top-level staff members, his spokesman, Kevin Harley, said in an e-mail. “The economy remains a challenge, and revenue is coming in below estimates,” he said. Harley did not say how many state employees were affected, but under a similar freeze imposed by Gov. Ed Rendell in 2009 and 2010, 13,000 were identified as management-level. CORBETT MEMO POINTS OUT OTHER GOVERNOR’S FAILURES
According to an article in the Patriot News, a memo from one of Gov. Tom Corbett’s top aides offers tips to staffers to tout their boss’ first-year accomplishments, instructing them to point out how he has succeeded where other governors have failed. Predictably, the memo favorably compares Corbett’s rookie year with his Democratic predecessor, Gov. Ed Rendell. More surprisingly, the memo cites the shortcomings of fellow Republican governors Tom Ridge and Dick Thornburgh. It notes they raised taxes
