The Senate Consumer Protection Committee met to consider four bills. SB 187 was unanimously reported with one amendment, which Senator MJ White opposed; SB 288 was reported as committed with Senator Piccola voting in the negative by proxy; SB 921 was unanimously reported with an amendment; and HB 1342 was unanimously reported as committed. The Senate Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee held a hearing with the five PUC commissioners to discuss the PUC budget and other topics relating to PUC jurisdiction. The majority of the conversation focused on the pending expiration of rate caps and how to mitigate the anticipated rate spikes. The members also discussed the need for safety oversight of natural gas pipelines and the development of alternative energy power sources.
